Curtsies and Bows

Does anyone else miss them? A couple years ago, Wimbledon changed its longstanding tradition that players walking onto Centre Court turn around halfway to their chairs by the netpost and curtsy or bow towards the Royal Box. And then again as the players left the courts, they stopped momentarily on their way out and repeated the gesture. I don't think I'm really a huge traditionalist, but I guess I felt that those small actions were an important part of the culture at Wimbledon. It is a British event after all and royalty is what one naturally thinks of when one thinks about London. You know, "God save the Queen." Wimbledon has many other things that they do differently from the other Grand Slams, e.g. no play on the hallowed "Middle Sunday" and no practice on the actual courts prior to the tournament, but I think this link to Wimbledon's traditional British past was a critical part of the Wimbledon "brand." Next thing you know they might actually film a movie on Centre Court, blasphemous! www.wimbledonmovie.com
