Getting Back in the Winner's Circle

Andy Roddick has enlisted the services of former great, Jimmy Connors, to be his coach. Clearly, Roddick could make some technical and strategic improvements and one thing Connors could teach Andy is how to make his way to net behind a good groundstroke and end the point with an easy volley. Connors didn’t come to net all the time, but like Agassi, he looked good when he was up there because he came in behind such a strong approach. Jimbo certainly knows a lot about winning and that “winning spirit” could be the most importance thing Andy needs right now - remembering how to “play to win” rather than worrying about losing. In many big matches recently, Roddick has seemed unsure of himself at the key moments, as if he’s lost the faith. If Connors can help Andy find his confidence again, Roddick’s play will instantly improve and thereby create fear again in his opponents. Connors has not been actively involved in the men’s tour for a while, but what he will add to the Roddick game should be timeless...
