Scary Streak...

streaker
So maybe you didn’t see it because some TV telecasts refused to show it or maybe you just missed the news… but a streaker ran onto Centre Court during the Sharapova-Dementieva match.  As soon as he appeared on Maria’s side of the court, she turned her back on him as he did a little jig in his birthday suit.  But I think the real news is that he managed to get onto Centre Court in the first place and then that he managed to strut his stuff for what seemed like 10 seconds or more before security guards approached him and covered him in a blanket as they escorted him off the court.  Apparently, he was given a serious talking to and then just asked to leave the grounds.   Is that the proper punishment for someone who crashes Centre Court?  Regardless, it is very disturbing that the security is still so weak, especially around Centre Court, the most famous tennis court in the world.  For anyone who remembers vividly what happened to Monica Seles many years ago, one thought things had become so much safer… But actually Centre Court is probably the most accessible court for fans sitting in the first few rows – they can just climb over the knee-high wall and walk onto the court.  And BTW, today during the Federer-Ancic match, another dude just walked onto the court with a racket (and his clothes on!) and started practicing his swing before guards whisked him away.  Look for some changes and beefed up security in the next couple days and definitely at the U.S. Open.
