It's Up to the Ump

So where do the chair umpires really fit into the mix nowadays. At the 2006 U.S. Open, chair umpires have been instructed to officiate as they always have over the years. But with the introduction of instant replay, what is the role of the umpire in terms of line calls? Why should an umpire bother to overrule what he/she sees as a questionable call when one could just double-check the instant replay? BTW, as of the end of week one, the men have been right on their challenges 28% of the time and the women 35%! I imagine over time, the chair umpire will be calling for the instant replay on any disputed calls and the entire player challenge system will slowly disappear. Why limit the number of reviews? Shouldn’t they just determine what is the “right” call?
