Models on Display
The Madrid ATP Masters Series tournament and the Sony Ericsson WTA Championships in Madrid are using professional models as ballboys and ballgirls. Female models for the men's event and male models for the ladies' tournament. We all know that sex appeal "sells," but is tennis so desperate that it needs to resort to this “trick” to attract fans? Don't answer that question! The bottom line may be that tennis needs some gimmicks to appeal to a broader range of fans, but this idea runs completely contrary to another big challenge – namely, enticing more kids to play the game. There is nothing more inspiring to a budding junior player than being the ballkid for one of his or her idols. So let's fight for the rights of kids... THEY are our future...
