Professional tennis players are constantly complaining about the schedule and the length of the season.Unfortunately, all professional sports seem to be dealing with the challenge of the unending season. The Super Bowl wasn't always in February! The World Series didn't use to be played during the first snow in October nor the NBA playoffs while students are on summer vacation. It's all about the money - for tennis, as well as for the other sports.Tennis players actually do get a couple breaks during the year. Most top players take about a month off after Wimbledon and six weeks between mid November and the Australian Open.Granted the rest of the season is jam packed. There has been discussion about moving the Aussie Open back a week or possibly into March, but we'll see.If the U.S. Open moved back a week that would also allow a longer mid-year break.Davis and Federation Cup also complicate the equation. Clearly, the final solution will require eliminating some tournaments/weeks from the calendar, but a long break, e.g. four months, would not work.It would be hard for players to maintain their match toughness and timing with such a long annual break. It's probably a situation where an extra week or two in the middle, and the end of the season would make a huge difference.
I think they sould break the year into two distinct 'seasons' - with 2 majors in each season. Then finish the year with a playoffs style tournament pitting the season 1 champs against the season 2 champs.
