A Couple Points

roddickforehand

Andy Roddick lost to Roger Federer in the Masters Cup in three sets after losing 3 match points in the second set tie-breaker (two on  his own serve).  It’s such a cliché that a few points can make the difference, but this seems like it was really one of those matches.  What made the loss of the match points even more painful in a way was that Roddick actually lost the tie-breaker by missing a gimme overhead that he tried to jump and slam running forward.  It was only a round robin match, not the finals of Wimbledon, but it had to be a very tough loss for Roddick.  And he’s had a few recently, e.g. the five set loss in Davis Cup in September.  By beating Federer, Roddick could have really turned his fortunes around because he would have started to believe he could crack the Federer jinx losing so many times in a row.  Instead, Roddick will need to regroup and work hard again during the off-season and have the faith in 2007 than he can and will cross over to the other side… not an easy task.
