Serena's Travels

Thirty-five years ago, Arthur Ashe saw a talented young boy playing tennis during a visit to Cameroon. Yannick Noah was that skinny little boy Arthur spotted. Noah went on to win the French Open and become one of the legends of the game. Noah, now a music superstar in France, also followed in Arthur’s humanitarian footsteps by starting his own foundation to support underprivileged kids in Africa. Serena Williams has spent part of her “off-season” on a trip to Ghana and Senegal. Serena’s first trip to Africa included humanitarian activities, e.g., taking part in immunization efforts, as well as tennis clinics for kids. Serena’s popularity will generate news headlines worldwide about her activities in Africa. Few people possess Arthur's humanity, but let's hope his example of using his fame to achieve important results off the court will rub off on a few others besides Serena Williams...
