Reviving the Rivalry
Recently, Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe played what was billed as their final match against each other. "Borg-McEnroe" was such a great rivalry for many reasons; the contrast in personalities, the baseliner versus the net-rusher and, of course, the fact that their matches were exciting and you were never sure who would win. Agassi-Sampras, Navratilova- Evert also had all the ingredients for the rivalry recipe. Federer versus Nadal has all of those elements, but Nadal has not held up his side for the last half of the year. Let's hope they can rekindle the fire when they match up in 2007. On the women's side, there is a lot of potential, e.g. Sharapova versus Mauresmo or Henin-Hardenne, and 2007 presents a chance to really rev up one of those rivalries... or maybe another one that has yet to present itself!
