Thirty year old Australian Mark Philippoussis, who has spent a bit of time on a surfboard over the years, skipped the recent Australian Open wildcard tournament - btw, pretty cool they had a tournament rather than just handing them all out, right?
Philippoussis is training hard and hoping for a wildcard slot which he will most likely be awarded based on his past record and popularity.
Although some may question Philippoussis’ choice to skip the wildcard event, maybe he felt practice was the better way to spend his time.
Hopefully, Philippoussis made the right choice because it would be great to see his enormous talent fulfilled after all these years... Mark has had a series of injuries and I'm not sure his body will carry him through seven tough five-set matches even if his serve is buzzing.
But then again, Goran Ivanisevic won Wimbledon at the end of his career after being the bridesmaid a couple times.
