There has been a lot of talk about the impact that Jimmy Connors has had on Andy Roddick’s performance over the past six months, but there are a couple other successful coaching relationships.
Chilean Fernando Gonzalez has played some amazing tennis so far at the 2007 Australian Open.
Scotsman Andy Murray played one of the best matches of the tournament losing to Rafael Nadal in 5 sets.
Both of these rising players have shown subtle, but marked improvement under the tutelage of their relatively new coaches.
Brad Gilbert, who formerly coached both Andre Agassi and Andy Roddick, seems to have improved Andy Murray’s match strategy and play, as well as his fitness.
Gonzalez has been on tour for several years, but his game finally seems to be reaching its full potential under coach Larry Stefanki.
“Gonzo” has long had probably the best forehand in men's tennis, but his backhand and serve have improved under coach Stefanki.
In addition, Gonzalez has evolved from a hitter into a player.
Stefanki previously worked with McEnroe, as well as with talented Chilean former Number One, Marcelo Rios.
Several top players are traveling without a coach and having success on tour.
However, Murray and Gonzalez are examples of players whose games and results have clearly benefited from having an experienced coach join their teams.
It's those few words of advice that a seasoned coach often provides which can help lift a player's confidence and performance, especially in the critical moments of a tight match.

I wish Rafael Nadal's Uncle Tony would realize that Rafa needs new coaching. It's sad to think that he's not improving to a highter potential level which, in fact,he certainly has. Nadal may not realize it, but his coach/uncle is not doing him any favors. Rafael Nadal needs someone such as T. Roach, Larry Stefanki, or Brad Gilbert. Too bad Andre Agassi couldn't work with him. What a dream team that would be. I know Nadal has the potential to be a high Number 1, but he needs a better coach to help him get there. He needs to be re-taught. Signed his NO. 1 FAN.

I believe Rafael Nadal is giving his all every shots and match. His coach/uncle is helping him improve, which many people can see that by watching him in a match;he is focused(hits all the shots no matter what). He has become more agressive attacking the ball and overall has becomed a WONDERFUL PLAYER! Plus, he doesn't give up...
Rafael Nadal is amazing the way he is.
VAMOS!!!
