The Aussies are a hardy bunch, but they’ve really had some tough breaks recently. They say you need a little luck and Australian tennis players are due for a little bit!Alicia Molik is on the comeback trail after missing a year and a half due to a serious inner-ear problem and seems to be rounding into form just in time for the 2007 Australian Open.On the men’s side, it’s been a rough week… Mark Philippoussis, who had been training hard for the past couple months with Andre Agassi’s former coach and trainer, Darren Cahill and Gil Reyes, respectively, sustained another knee injury at the Hopman Cup.The 30 year old Philippoussis hurt his right knee this time (he’s had surgery 3 times on his left knee) and immediately had surgery in Sydney to repair the torn lateral meniscus.Philippoussis faces a 6-8 week recovery and then he can restart his comeback yet again. And now Lleyton Hewitt has sustained a torn calf muscle and pulled out of the Australian Open warm-up tournament in Sydney.Hewitt’s preparations for the Australian Open are definitely affected and we’ll see if he’s healed in time for the start of the first 2007 Grand Slam.At the same, Hewitt coach, Roger Rasheed, resigned his duties following the recent Adelaide tournament forcing Hewitt to find a new coach a week before the Australian Open. Yesterday, Scott Draper signed on as Hewitt's coach. All in all, not great prep weeks for the Aussie men.Let’s wish the Aussies a little luck when the 2007 Australian Open starts on January 15th – they deserve a bit I think!
