Big Boost

espresso

No doubt about it, Andy Roddick beating Roger Federer on the eve of the 2007 Australian Open is a big deal.  For Andy Roddick that is... I'm sure Federer would have preferred to have won, but I'd bet this win boosts Roddick's confidence much more than it dents Federer's self-belief.  Sure it was just an exhibition final which doesn't even count in the rankings, but believe me it counts in Roddick's book.  When you've lost to someone as many times as Roddick has to Federer, even a win in a practice match helps a bit!  The win also sends a quiet message to others in the locker-room that they too have a chance.  Now will anyone else seize the opportunity… if and when he gets it?!
