Jankovic won her first tournament of the year and then upset Amelie Mauresmo in her first match at the Sydney tournament before losing a tight final to Kim Clijsters.
At the same time, Spaniard, Tommy Robredo started off 2007 well by leading the Spanish team to victory at the Hopman Cup and reaching the finals at the Heineken Open in Auckland.
James Blake, coming off a career year in 2006, also looked strong in winning the title at the Medibank International in Sydney.
