Friday was one of those Melbourne "four seasons in a day" days with some rain, some sun, some clouds, warm sticky weather, etc.
The outer court matches were delayed after only a few games.
On Rod Laver and Vodafone Arenas, the roof was closed from the get go and the first matches were played indoors.
When it was time for Roger Federer's match to start on Rod Laver, they were playing all the matches on the outer courts yet they started and played Federer's match indoors under the roof - why?
Or rather why not play an outdoor match at an outdoor tournament when the conditions permitted it?
One guesses that the threat of rain forced them to play indoors, but is that the right choice?
