A Small Gesture

ticket

Andre Agassi attended the ATP tournament in his hometown of Las Vegas the other day.  Agassi, who was offered a free ticket to watch the matches, insisted on purchasing a ticket.  The whole world of free passes, comp tickets, etc. is quite familiar to a former player such as Agassi.  However, it is inspiring that he bothered to make a point of actually paying for his ticket.

The Tennis Channel Open in Las Vegas is a relatively new event on the ATP calendar and therefore does not sell out all of its seats for the week.  Clearly, Agassi's ticket purchase will not have a significant impact on the tournament's bottom line, but symbolically it spoke volumes... about the need to "support" tournaments and about Agassi's desire to give back to the sport of tennis now that he is on the other side of the fence.  Would that others will follow his lead...
