Next Week

For all of the complaints about the length of the tennis tour calendar, there are some good aspects to it. More so than almost every other sport, there's always a "another tournament" or a "new week." When Serena Williams wants to capitalize on her resurgent confidence after her recent Australian Open title, Serena can jet off to Bangalore India for another tournament on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour. At the same time, Justine Henin can relatively easily find a convenient tournament close to home, e.g. Paris, to start her delayed new season. Meanwhile, Roger Federer can take a break for a few weeks after his 10th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open and go skiing back home in Switzerland for a couple days. If this were baseball, football or basketball, etc., one might need to wait several months for the new season to start. That's one of the great things about tennis, at every level of competition... there's always another chance... another match to play... next week... or next month...
