Roger Federer has produced an incredible string of tournament titles over the past few years and has been an exemplary champion both on and off the tennis court. One tennis player in the world for the past three years, has only appeared in a couple TV ads for Wilson rackets. Clearly, tennis trails other sports in terms of TV ratings and overall popularity. However, Nike, which sponsors Federer, created the memorable “I Feel Pretty” TV commercial for Maria Sharapova that aired during the 2006 U.S. Open and Tiger Woods has appeared in numerous TV commercials. Sponsors definitely pay attention to the various “ratings” of an athlete’s appeal and Federer’s ”Q score” in the spring of 2006 was 14 compared to 40 for Tiger Woods and 26 for Serena Williams. In other scores compiled by the Davie-Brown agency, Federer trailed Tiger Woods 44 to 86 in one measurement and 30 to 95 in another.
