Neon Nights

Neon lights

“Night Tennis” has come to Miami… just in time for the Winter Music Conference which brings together some of the top DJs from around the world!  “Night Tennis” is a totally cool new innovation from Sony Ericsson who is the title sponsor of the WTA Tour.  The tennis is played on a black court with the only light coming from the ultra-violet on the players' clothing, rackets, the net and the lines, as well as from the fluorescent yellow tennis balls.

“Night Tennis” was first played in Madrid during the Sony Ericsson Championships last November.  In Miami, ATP and WTA players will participate in the exhibition “matches.”  As part of the event, there was also a lightshow, ultraviolet fashion show along with a DJ and dance music.  Although “Night Tennis” wasn’t held on the site of the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, it certainly generated a terrific buzz for the sport of tennis during the tournament.  This is an excellent fan-friendly innovation which should help to attract more, and younger, fans to the sport.   Tennis at night will never be the same!
