Now She's Ready
Daniela Hantuchova won the second title of her career at the recent Pacific Life Open. In fact, she won the first title of her career five years ago at the Pacific Life Open! After that first win in which she upset Martina Hingis, many expected Hantuchova to instantly move to the top of the women’s game. Instead, Daniela has had a rocky road over the past five years as she has struggled at times with weight issues, lack of confidence, etc. Currently ranked number 12, Hantuchova is rising
again towards her career-high ranking of number 5, which she reached in 2003. Sometimes the second time is the charm as it's been for Amelie Mauresmo. One has the sense that after coming through the tough times, Hantuchova is now ready to achieve her full potential. Everyone has always considered her to be a very pure striker of the ball, but now she seems to have added confidence and mental fortitude to the mix. One hopes she will be able to ride this wave a lot further than the last time around…
