Comparing Canas

Clay Tennis Court

As the clay court season begins, everyone’s been commenting about how a “clay-courter” such as Argentine Guillermo Canas could beat Roger Federer twice in a row on hard courts?!  Canas' style of play is actually quite similar to two future Hall of Famers, i.e. Michael Chang and Aranxta Sanchez Vicario, both of whom defeated the top players of their eras. Canas has a long way to go to achieve the results of those two superstars.  However, his recent play proves that players

who hustle endlessly, have solid games without any glaring weaknesses, make very few unforced errors and occasionally hit winners off their first serves can have a lot of success against top players.  It may not always be the most exciting brand of tennis to watch, but it wins.
