Dashing Federer...

Well... April is a pretty good month for tennis in terms of the fashion pages... Maria Sharapova is featured in a multi-page photo spread in Vogue and Roger Federer is on the cover of Men's Vogue which includes a feature story on Federer and a stunning photo piece of Federer and girlfriend, Mirka Vavrinec, shot in Dubai by Annie Liebovitz. Tim Adams' article on Federer includes some comments that may surprise tennis fans. For example, Federer talks about how he worries he might lose before every match, "I go into every single match thinking I could lose," he says. "Most days I think I could lose easily - that if I don't play my game, I will lose." At the same time, the humble Federer admits that even
after so many Grand Slam titles, he still loves to read his own press and can't wait to read the morning newspapers after his big wins, "I have to know somehow that it is all real, that it is out there," he says. In a sense, the article illustrates that often suprising combination that many superstar athletes possess, i.e. a constant fear of losing coupled with an inner confidence that actually pulls them through the crucial moments of a match. In the end, sound technique and strong training help as well!
