Serbia's Finest

With his recent play at The Pacific Life and Sony Ericsson Opens, where he reached the finals and won the title respectively, Novak Djokovic has truly arrived on the scene. Along with compatriots, Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic on the women’s side, Djokovic is part of a talented group of Serbian tennis players making their marks on the ATP and Sony Ericsson WTA Tours. As seems to be the new pattern on the tennis circuit, Djokovic plays for his home country of Serbia, but he
trains at Nikki Pilic's club in Germany. Djokovic also recently hired former Aussie doubles superstar, Mark Woodforde, to travel with him for a few weeks and help him improve his volleys. Most tennis fans know the story of how Maria Sharapova and her father traveled from Siberia to Nick Bollettieri’s Academy in Florida when she was seven years old so she could pursue a tennis career. Sharapova’s case is not as unique as it sounds anymore. In order to try to realize their potential, most tennis pros seek the very best coaching and training in the world, regardless of borders.
