Will Yourself to Win

Serena Williams Volley

Serena Williams is "two for two" so far in 2007 having won the first two tournament finals she played, i.e. the 2007 Australian Open and the Sony Ericsson Open.  Along the way, Serena beat Maria Sharapova twice and Justine Henin once.  If you watched many of Serena's matches, you couldn't help but notice how hard she fights, even when she's nervous or not playing well.  Despite the many strengths in her game, Serena's will to win may be her greatest strength.  It's what  all top champions

must have in deep reserves.  It's what enables them to come back from 5-1 in the third set (Henin did at the 2007 Sony Ericsson Open) or after losing the first set 6-0 and being down double championship point as Serena did on her way to defeating Henin for the 2007 Sony Ericsson Open title.  Serena fought her way through the tough times and found a way to win.  There's a lesson in that for everyone.
