Bubble has Burst

You knew it couldn’t last “Fedever”… What was so remarkable about Federer’s run the past few years was not just how many Grand Slams he won, but how consistent he was during the regular, non-Slam, tournaments. With his loss to Volandri in the Italian Open and previous losses to Canas twice in a row on hard courts, the Federer armor clearly has a few chinks in it. It’s also been very surprising to watch how Federer has lost, i.e. in his loss to
Volandri, Federer had 44 unforced errors, less than 50% first serves in play, and won less than 40% of the points on his second serve. What is even more surprising is what Federer said after the loss to Volandri, "I don't know what's wrong. I have to analyze it myself, it was over too soon for me today." It’s such a cliche what a fine line it can sometimes be between winning and losing, but it's also so true. Federer won so much the past few years because he managed to find a way to win when he made 44 unforced errors… It should be a very exciting time at Roland Garros and Wimbledon given the turn of events the past couple months, i.e. Federer’s surprising losses, Nadal’s return to form, etc. What’s great about tennis is that each match is a brand new day…
