Flip Side of Success

Rafael Nadal is riding a record-breaking clay court match winning streak and has captured his last two tournaments. Sebian star, Novak Djokovic, has continued his winning ways by capturing the title in Estoril backing up his break-out win at The Sony Ericsson Open. But there is often another side to so much success leading up to the tight Grand Slam double-header, i.e. the French Open and Wimbledon. Winning titles is great for
the confidence, but it's also quite tiring to win so many matches especially for a newcomer like Djokovic who is not used to being in the finals. Nadal managed to win several clay court titles and then go on to win Roland Garros the past couple years, but that's a rare feat. Scheduling is always a tricky challenge for this reason. One wants to commit to enough tournaments to become match tough, but then if one loses earlier than expected one is lacking match play. Conversely, if one wins many more matches than in the past, one can become worn out before the big events. It’s a fine line to walk…
