Time for a Change

Clearly, all is not well in the house of Federer… Many players drop their coaches when their results turn south, but it is surprising that Federer has parted ways with Tony Roche. The real significance of this move by Federer is the message that it sends to all his peers in the locker-room. For Federer to drop Tony Roche two weeks before Roland Garros indicates exactly how much the recent losses have shaken Federer’s confidence. Federer, like Sampras and other former Number One
players, has won many points and a few matches along the way simply because of the “fear factor,” i.e. when a player competes against the top player. However, Federer seems to have lost a bit of that aura of invincibility and his performance at Roland Garros and Wimbledon will speak volumes about whether he can get it back quickly...
