First Time on Centre Court

There is always a difference in the experience of playing on a major stadium court because of the size of the space around the exterior of the court, as well as the sightlines, wind, etc. One of the unique aspects of Wimbledon is that players are never able to practice on Centre Court except in a few rare exceptional situations. Players can hit on other practice courts at
Wimbledon and nearby, but not on the show courts. At the other three Grand Slams, players frequently practice on the main show courts so this is quite a difference for them. Therefore, top players who have played on Centre Court often have a subtle edge when they play against a “first-timer.” However, this year all players are walking out for the first time on the 2007 version of Wimbledon’s Centre Court, albeit a “roofless” and slightly windier one…
