Is it a Game or a Job?

Being a professional athlete can be very challenging and also very rewarding figuratively and literally, but is it still a game or do athletes need to consider it a job? Clearly, tennis pros competing at the French Open need to act professionally on and off the court and practice “their trade” seriously in order to be successful. However, Russian player, Nikolay Davydenko, takes it to another level in some ways. Davydenko has played tournaments
for 20 out of the first 22 weeks of the year. It has been suggested that he should play less so that he doesn’t become worn out and also so that he can peak for the Grand Slams. According to Nikolay, tennis is his job and if he doesn’t play tennis tournaments, then he doesn’t earn any money. Therefore, Davydenko plays as many tournaments as he can! He’s made it to the semis of the French Open and doesn’t seem tired yet…
