Live and In Color

It's taken a few years, but the tennis world is slowly joining the rest of professional sports in offering live streaming of matches via the Internet. It is still early days and clearly the tournaments, tours and rights-holders are exploring several scenarios. For example, many of the TV broadcasters televising the French Open are also offering free online streaming of selected matches to restricted geographic audiences. Next month, Wimbledon will offer live streaming
of almost every court for a fee of $24.99. The NBA, MLB and the NFL, etc. have all offered various live streaming video packages for several years so let's hope that the tennis world learns from their experiences. Tennis fans win by being able to view more live matches than may be available through their local TV telecasts and the tournaments can benefit financially from these expanded audiences.
