New Face of a Nation

Following in the footsteps of tennis legend, Monica Seles, and Los Angeles Laker NBA star, Vlade Divac, a trio of Serbian tennis players, Ana Ivanovic, Jelena Jankovic and Novak Djokovic have become global spokespeople for Serbia making themselves heard at the 2007 French Open. For many years, the image of Serbia to the world
was of a country torn apart by bombing, war and ethnic strife. With the success over the past year in a high-profile global sport such as tennis, Djokovic, Ivanovic and Jankovic are becoming the new global face for Serbia. These rising tennis stars are young, good-looking and well-spoken. They are talented, but also multi-lingual and at home in the limelight which has started to shine so brightly on them and their recovering country. When South Africa hosts the World Cup soccer tournament in a couple years, that nation and its athletes also have the opportunity to present the new face of South Africa to the world.
