No Stumbles (So Far)
During her first round match at the French Open, Serena Williams actually shed a few tears on the changeover after losing the first set. Eventually, Serena regrouped and won the match in three sets and kept her streak alive… Serena Williams has never lost in the first round of a Grand Slam tournament. That is quite an impressive accomplishment and none of her peers at the top of the women’s game can make a similar claim, i.e. Justine
Henin, Maria Sharapova, Amelie Mauresmo and sister Venus Williams have all lost in the first round of a Grand Slam at some point in their careers. On the men’s side, Roger Federer and Andy Roddick have a couple first round losses in Grand Slams. However, Rafael Nadal can join Serena for the dance because he has also never lost in the first round of Grand Slam… not bad!
