Painted Balls

Paint balls

The French Open has a style all its own and that includes the trophy presentation following the championship matches.  In addition to the traditional silver trophies awarded to the singles champion and the winners of the women’s doubles tournament, each will also receive a unique work of art.  Continuing the creative collaboration from the past six years that is on display in an exhibit at Roland Garros, Martina Navratilova

and her artist partner, Juraj Kralik, created six new pieces on Court Philippe Chatrier earlier in the 2007 French Open tournament.  These original works of art were created when Navratilova hit tennis balls soaked in paint onto canvases that were placed on the clay court.  These canvases have to rank as some of the most unique and artistic “trophies” presented to tennis champions.  I’ll take one of those for my walls!
