PLAY on the Middle Sunday

Wall of Ivy

It’s time… for there to be play on the Middle Sunday at Wimbledon.  I am a big fan of Wimbledon and especially those aspects of The Championships which make it unique.  However, this year is an example of why there needs to be play on the Middle Sunday.  Several players will be completing their third round singles matches on Monday of the second week, weather permitting!  Therefore,  a couple players would have to

complete five (potentially five-set) matches within seven days to win the title.  A day of rest for everyone in the middle of Wimbledon is a wonderful concept in an ideal world.  However, given the probability of rain during Wimbledon every year, having that one extra day for match play allows for less of a potential backlog of matches during the second week of The Championships and the possibility of running into a third week.
