What does one think of most when one thinks of England? Tennis fans may think it’s Wimbledon, but I’d wager a few quid that it’s really royalty, i.e. the Queen, the late Princess Diana and of course now Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry. It’s been 30 years since a British woman, i.e. Virginia Wade, won the Championship and that was also the last year that the Queen visited Wimbledon. It is a wonderful tradition to
see the Duke and Duchess of Kent walk onto Centre Court and hand out the trophies after the Ladies’ and Gentlemen’s Singles Finals, but what about the rest of the Championships? The Royal Box often seems to lack real royalty… Princess Diana was a tennis fan and player who attended The Championships and hopefully her charismatic sons will find their way back to The All England Club in the not too distant future. There is a little something missing at Wimbledon without them…
