John Isner Arrives

Former University of Georgia Bulldog’s Number One tennis player, the 6 foot 9 inch John Isner, announced his arrival on the ATP Tour with his stellar play at the Legg Mason tournament in Washington, DC. Isner, a member of the 2007 NCAA Champion Georgia tennis team and 2007 graduate, reached the finals losing a tight two set match to Andy Roddick. However, what was most memorable about Isner's run to the Legg Mason
finals was his first five match wins – he won five straight matches by winning the third set tie-breaker! To even play final set tie-breakers in consecutive matches is quite rare, but five in a row has probably never happened before... and may never happen again! It takes confidence to win tie-breakers and clearly John Isner found his groove in Washington. He has a world class serve, decent ground strokes and volleys, and displayed some nice touch and movement around the court for such a tall tennis player. Isner has the potential to make his mark on the ATP Tour and the challenge will be “the tie-breakers to come”... will Isner be able to maintain the confidence and poise under pressure that he displayed in his memorable debut at the Legg Mason Classic. John Isner, with one strong tournament, is already (another) BIG hope for the future of men’s American tennis.
