Nadal's Knocked-up Knees

Rafael Nadal looked rather banged-up as he played his first round match at the 2007 U.S. Open with both his knees taped for patella tendonitis. In early July, when Nadal walked off the court after losing the Wimbledon final to Roger Federer, Nadal was nursing one sore knee which flared up in the middle of their epic five-set final. Unlike Federer who took a month off after Wimbledon, Nadal only rested for one week before playing a
clay court tournament in Germany. Nadal then had a couple weeks off before playing two hard court tournaments in North America prior to the U.S. Open. In his second hard-court tune-up, Nadal withdrew in the middle of his match with arm problems. Hopefully, Nadal’s knee tendonitis will ease a bit with a day off before his second-round match, but it is the type of injury which really needs a lot of rest to heal completely. Despite his bulging muscles, Nadal has already had several injuries in his short career. Therefore, one hopes that Nadal will add more rest periods to his future schedule in order to allow his body to recover from his grueling brand of tennis.
