Roddick Rockets On...

Andy Roddick has moved into the second round of the 2007 U.S. Open after an entertaining win over American, Justin Gimelstob. Roddick won the 2003 U.S. Open, but has not yet won another Grand Slam title and the pressure to add the second one seems to mount with each Grand Slam tournament. At Wimbledon, Roddick seemed primed to take on Roger Federer in the semis only to lose a lead against the talented Frenchman,
Richard Gasquet, and lose the match in five tough sets. It was a heart-breaking loss for Roddick despite the fact that Gasquet played amazing tennis to win. Tomorrow, Andy Roddick turns 25 and sometimes one forgets he is barely in his mid-twenties, especially given the success of his now 26 year old nemesis, Roger Federer. Since winning the U.S. Open title in 2003, Roddick has been a steady fixture at the top of the men’s rankings and has reached the semis at the Australian Open twice, been a finalist twice at Wimbledon and reached the U.S. Open finals in 2006. Not too shabby a record for a guy barely hitting his prime years on the Tour. Roddick works very hard, he wants it real bad and so let’s give the guy a break and hope his best years are still ahead of him.
