Serena Starts Again... and Again

Once again, Serena Williams has missed a couple months of tournament play and practice because of an injury. This time, the culprit is her thumb which she injured during a fall at Wimbledon. This latest injury has put her appearance at the 2007 U.S. Open in doubt. If Serena can compete at the U.S. Open, she will enter the tournament without one match since Wimbledon over six weeks ago. This time around, Serena has been
able to practice, but not hit two-handed backhands. Serena has also been able to serve and that is probably the most critical part of her game. Therefore, Serena still absolutely has a chance at the 2007 U.S. Open title even without match preparation. The draw will be important to allow Serena to work herself into the tournament, but how well she serves will be the key to her success.
