Come to Net!

It’s so frustrating at times to watch some of the talented baseliners these days at the U.S. Open because they actually make the rallies tougher for themselves. At the U.S. Open, hard-hitting players such as Novak Djokovic and Svetlana Kuznetsova often hit penetrating groundstrokes, but then never follow them in to net to cut off a volley. Instead, they hit a couple more groundstrokes to try to win the rally. Sometimes, these
players may not feel confident in their volleying skills. However, even players who volley well may not feel completely comfortable with the “transition game” and therefore may try to win the point from the baseline. Hopefully, with more match experience and volley practice, these players will bravely venture more frequently towards the net. As result, they’ll find that they have shorter rallies and matches!
