Fabulous, Fragile French Tennis Players

At the 2007 U.S. Open... Richard Gasquet… Gael Monfils… Jo-Wilfried Tsonga… what do these tennis players all have in common? Three things (among others)… they are all French, they are all extremely naturally talented on the tennis court and they have all been plagued by injuries during their brief, but very promising careers. For one country to produce so many naturally talented young tennis players – all three are in their early twenties – is
very impressive. At the same time, it has been very frustrating for their fans because none of the three has yet achieved his true potential. Their games may actually be more suited for hard and grass courts rather than the clay at Roland Garros, but they all belong in the top 20 or higher. Unfortunately, talent can only carry you so far sometimes and injuries can really hamper a player’s progress at times. The next couple years are key for these three tennis players to see whether they will truly fulfill their potential and match the high expectations that so many tennis fans, especially French ones, have for them. Other countries such as Spain, Russia and Argentina have produced groups of successful tennis players, but rarely have there been such talented ones within a couple years of each other. Let’s hope they can push each other to higher heights over the next couple years.
