Hawk-Eye Tennis Line Calling System

At the 2007 U.S. Open, there were 289 challenges of line calls using the Hawk-Eye electronic line-calling system.  Approximately 31% of the challenges were correct and resulted in an overturned call.  The men and women averaged approximately the same number of challenges per set.  Ironically, Serbian stars, Novak Djokovic and Jelena Jankovic had the most challenges for the men and women respectively.  Djokovic managed to correctly

challenge approximately 43% of the time while Jankovic only had one correct challenge!  The statistics are interesting, but the real story is how in one year, tennis fans and players (on stadium courts and on TV) are so enthusiastic about the system.  At times, some players may not have 100% confidence in the system, but the majority of the time it is trusted by players and fans alike.  It seems to "settle the questions" in everyone’s mind and allow play to continue without the potential distraction of "bad line calls" affecting the outcome of a match.
