John McEnroe - The Legend Plays On...

During his brilliant career, John McEnroe won a lot of his matches and titles trading on his incredible natural talent, soft hands at net, etc. One thing that McEnroe was not famous for was his rigorous practice and conditioning habits. Instead, unlike today’s top players such as Federer and Nadal, McEnroe preferred to play doubles at most tournaments rather than spend hours on the practice court. In a way, that makes it so much
more impressive that he has clearly worked hard to stay in shape as he’s gotten older. McEnroe has also practiced regularly so that he can perform at a high level in Senior events as he nears 50. McEnroe earned millions on-court and in endorsements during his tennis career and although more money is always nice, he doesn’t need the money he earns from competing on the Champions Tours or as a TV tennis commentator. All of which shows how much McEnroe still loves the game of tennis. A year ago, McEnroe even won an ATP doubles title with Jonas Bjorkman and has played well on the various Champions Tours for years. As McEnroe reaches 50 and the starting age of “Senior” tennis players keeps dropping, i.e. it used to be 45, then 35 and now it’s often only 30, one doesn’t know whether he will continue to play Senior tournaments, but let’s hope he does!
