One of the distinguishing features of the U.S. Open is the fact that the Women's Final is played in prime time and televised live on Saturday night in the United States. In contrast, the Men's Final is still played in the late afternoon on Sunday following the lead-in on CBS TV in the U.S. from the afternoon NFL football games. There has been a concerted effort by the USTA to make the U.S. Open "more entertaining" and broaden the appeal of tennis. Therefore, having the Women's Final on prime time on Saturday night helps to promote the sport of tennis to more mainstream audiences.
