All Bets are Off at the Australian Open

Roll the Dice

The 2008 Australian Open will no longer offer fans the opportunity to place a bet on a tennis match while they are on the grounds at Melbourne Park. Tabcorp, which had a booth at the 2007 Australian Open, will no longer have a presence at the 2008 tournament.  Given the betting clouds hanging over professional tennis, it’s a smart move by the organizers of the Australian Open and sends the right message to tennis fans, players and the

press, i.e. that the tournament is not supporting betting on matches at the Australian Open.  In these times, it’s vital for the leaders of the sport to send a zero tolerance message in order to avoid a major scandal.
