Competitive Tennis Parctice

There are many ways to enhance tennis practice sessions beyond basic drills to reinforce technique. Simulating competitive match situations is a key element of effective practice sessions. Some pro tennis players play tie-breakers in addition to points and games to add some tension to the practice sessions. Practice tie-breakers are an excellent way to simulate a tight moment in a match when one has to produce one’s best
tennis. For example, 5-5 in a practice tie-breaker requires a player to produce a strong serve or return and try to avoid an unforced error. If not, the player is "down" set point or match point. Playing baseline points to 7 or 11 is also an excellent way to focus on winning ground stroke rallies without the benefit of a strong serve or return impacting the points. Every player has his or her own preferences regarding how much to drill versus how much time to devote to match situations, but the key is to include both in every day’s practice sessions.
