Tennis Power Index

The Sony Ericsson WTA Tour has launched another innovation utilizing the Hawk-Eye technology data. For years, the service speed has been measured and promoted on stadium screens and on TV telecasts of tennis matches. Now, the "Power Index" provides data on the speed of a player's ground strokes, volleys, overheads, etc. There is no question that players hit the ball harder these days and clearly speed and power
fascinate fans who glance at the serve speed display after every super fast serve. Therefore, this new Power Index should add to fans' enjoyment of matches. When Ana Ivanovic blasts a forehand past an opponent, now fans can now instantly check out the MPHs! Let's just hope that this new innovation doesn't make the next generation of tennis stars think that power is what's most important. Placement, strategy and finesse also have their place in tournament tennis.
