Federer - GQ "Court King"

Roger Federer has hit the men's fashion pages... yet again! This time, Federer has been included in GQ magazine's "Men of the Year" list as part of its December, 2007 issue. It's awesome publicity for both Federer and the sport of tennis. Federer joined baseball players, Alex Rodriguez and Ryan Howard, and skateboarder, Shaun White, as the only athletes on the list that also included politicians, e.g. former American President, Bill Clinton, as well as many actors including Tom Hanks, and musician, Kanye West, as well as one woman... Cate Blanchett, who portrayed Bob Dylan in a film! Like Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams, Roger Federer now transcends tennis and has moved from being a global
tennis superstar to being a global celebrity. A previous generation of tennis superstars dabbled in rock music, e.g. John McEnroe, Pat Cash and Mats Wilander, but they remained primarily tennis superstars. What's the next move for Roger Federer? Is it a clothing line ala Venus Williams or is maybe a movie role in Roger Federer's future? If Federer becomes more of a celebrity, he will continue to lose more of his private life and face the challenges that those distractions create. How will this impact his tennis career over the next 5 years? It depends upon the choices Federer makes going forward between his on-court focus and off-court interests.
