Henin Marches into the Record Books

Justine Henin finished the 2007 season with an exclamation point! It was Henin’s finest season to date ending with a thrilling three set triumph over Maria Sharapova in the year-end Sony Ericsson Championships final. Henin’s 39th career tournament victory was her 10th title of 2007. It was also the first time a player has won double digit titles since Martina Hingis in 1997. Justine also raised her win tally to 21-1 over the rest of
the top 10 tennis players. Henin, who is unbeaten since her semifinal loss at Wimbledon, is now riding a 25 match win streak into 2008. This record is only second behind Steffi Graf who won 38 straight matches after losing in the 1989 French Open final. With the $1 million winner’s prize at the 2007 Sony Ericsson Championships, Henin earned over $5 million for the year which is also a record for annual tournament earnings. For a tennis player who started the 2007 season by skipping the Australian Open because she was going through a painful divorce from her husband, Pierre-Yves Hardenne, it’s not a bad way to finish an amazing season on the tennis court…
