The
United States Davis Cup team managed to fulfill the childhood dreams of its all-star line-up, i.e.
Andy Roddick,
James Blake, the Bryan brothers, by winning the 2007 Davis Cup title.
It was a storybook finish for the Americans in front of a boisterous sold-out “hometown” crowd in Portland, Oregon.
Now it’s time to fess up to how well we did with our predictions… not one of our best efforts, but nonetheless there were a few “good calls!”
- The U.S. and Russia will split the singles matches on Friday
- Fortunately for the Americans, James Blake completed a U.S. sweep of Friday’s singles matches with what many called a “life-changing” win in the second singles match.
- The doubles match will be decided in five sets
- The Bryan Brothers came through and closed out the Russian duo in three straight sets.
- A Hawk-Eye challenge will reverse a critical line call on Sunday
- There was not a monumental line call challenge on Sunday, but Hawk-Eye clearly proved it belongs in the game and fortunately neither team abused the unlimited challenge rule.
- Russia will substitute a player in one of the final two singles matches on Sunday
- Igor Andreev was substituted for Mikhail Youzhny. However, we will come clean and only take partial credit because we were really talking about a substitution for a “live” match.
- The winning country in the first singles match of the Tie will win the 2007 Davis Cup
- Andy Roddick, who won the first match of the Tie, led his American team to victory in every one of its 2007 Davis Cup ties and the Finals was no different. Well done!
